Beaufort West is the capital of the Karoo and located on the main route from Johannesburg to Cape Town. Over the past decade, the town has developed into a major centre of commerce. This region is ideally suited for sheep farming and is known for its merino stud farms.

Dr Christiaan Barnard (who performed the first heart transplant) was born here and there is a small museum. Beaufort West is, because of its healthy climate, a popular winter holiday destination and is also popular as a venue for congresses and sports.

Lemoenfontein ENQUIRE
Set in the vast expanse of the South African Great Karoo, this beautiful homestead/lodge dates back to 1850. Built slowly and soundly to the exacting standards and architectural style of the time, the building remains unchanged with characteristic high ceilings, original wooden floors and wide verandas which offer guests a sweeping panoramic view of the Karoo landscape. The homestead is a haven for the world weary traveller, and for those who want to escape city life and experience the beauty, silence and unassuming simplicity of the vast open spaces. The self same atmosphere can still be felt throughout the old building even though modern comforts like ceiling fans, wall heaters and en-suite bathrooms have been added to ensure our guests a comfortable stay. Apart from the excellent lodging facilities Lemoenfontein offers real South African home cooking, a self serve bar, TV-lounge, swimming pool and braai (barbeque) facilities. Game drives early in the morning and late afternoon are an absolute must
Olive Grove ENQUIRE
Olive Grove Guest Farm lies at the heart of the Karoo. Situated in true Karoo "veld", our lodge built in Karoo style offers traditional Karoo cuisine - making this an experience of true South African hospitality. We have seven luxury chalets set against the backdrop of an old barn. The name "Olive Grove" reflects our Olive orchard of 8000 trees already in production. These lie on either side of the road, extending to the lodge. We produce both Olive Oil and Table Olives and would gladly share our knowledge of Olive production with you. We sell Olive products, Karoo mutton and Game biltong (in season).
