INTRODUCTION
Schotia Safaris is the
oldest private game viewing reserve in the Eastern Cape,
bordering the eastern side of Addo Elephant National Park.
This malaria free reserve is probably the most densely
stocked reserve in Africa, and with over 40 mammal species
and approximately 2000 animals, can offer consistently good
game viewing throughout the year. Schotia was the first
reserve in the Cape Province to have free roaming lions and
we can almost guarantee sightings of these magnificent
animals on every
Tooth & Claw game drive.
The reserve is owned, managed and run 'hands on' by the
owners, the Bean family, who are now in their sixth
generation and have owned the original farm, Orlando, since
the early 1800's. After nearly 25 years of experience in the
safari business, Peter and his team have created a unique,
relaxed and truly South African experience at Schotia.
Just a short drive from Port Elizabeth, Addo or Grahamstown,
don't miss the unique experience that is Schotia Safaris.
DINING
Schotia has a huge open
air lapa, reputedly among the largest in South Africa. It
has reed and sneezewood walls and is open to the African
skies, except for the outer ring where a traditionally
thatched roof covers the dining tables and bar area. Inside
the lapa there are several large 'Schotia' trees and a
roaring log fire. Dinner is usually a mix of safari cuisine
and traditional South African cooking; the exact menu
depends on what is available on the day.FUNCTIONS

Schotia Safari Packages
Guests can self drive to Schotia Head
Quarters or can be fetched from Port Elizabeth. We also offer transfers by
air to Schotia from any destination in South Africa. You can arrive any time
after midday. You will be met at our head quarters by our friendly staff who
will help you with your luggage and checking in etc. Your ranger will then
give you an idea of what you can expect during your stay at Schotia.
ROOMS
For a real 'African' feel,
try one of our three themed bush lodges - one is a 'family'
lodge, with two bunk-beds and a double bed, the other two
are honeymoon style doubles. Set within dense subtropical
thicket these rustic-brick and thatch lodges have the
comforts you would expect of a top class reserve - en suite
shower/bathroom with running hot and cold water, coffee/tea
making facilities and a real fire to welcome you on colder
evenings. What they do lack is the trappings of the modern
world - satellite TV, 24 hour room service and electricity
(don't worry - we can still charge cameras and batteries for
you)! Lamps will be lit for you in the evening and the rooms
are serviced daily.
